STATIN: Inflation dipped by 0.2% in September

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica has reported that the rate of inflation, or increase in average consumer prices, dipped by 0.2 percentage points in September this year.
 
The rate of inflation was 5.7% on a point to point basis for September 2023 to September this year. 
 
STATIN says the average price of electricity and water, gas and other fuels fell by 4% while the cost of transport by dipped by 0.4%. 
 
Average price of food and non-alcoholic beverages however climbed by 0.7%, while the average cost of educational services jumped by 5.8%.
 
STATIN also reported that some 1.4 million people were working in April this year. Of this number 324,800 were working as sales and shop workers and 192,000 were in elementary occupations. 
 
The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector accounted for 187,000 of those employed while 265,100 people were working in the wholesale and retail sector.
 
There were 150,000 people were employed in the real estate and other business sectors, which include the knowledge process outsourcing or BPO sector.
 
Of the 1.405 million people who were working in April this year, 732,800 completed upper secondary education.
 
Another 230,000 had tertiary education and 293,000 had lower secondary education.
 
Additionally, 85,000 had post-secondary but not tertiary education, while 68,600 were educated only up to the primary level or below.
