National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang has attributed a 60 per cent decline in murders in St. James to an effective crime fighting regime instituted by the government.

Dr Chang, speaking Sunday at a Community Development Committee forum in St. James, said the government has invested roughly one billion dollars annually to ensure increased police presence in crime hot spots such as Norwood and Mount Salem. Norwood did not record a single murder in 2024.

The Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for St James North Western, appealed for peace and calm while urging residents of Norwood to maintain the decline in crime figures.

A Zone of Special Operations is in place in Norwood and Mount Salem.

Dr Chang added that Norwood has been robbed of major infrastructural development due to sweeping violence.
