The Transport Authority has revealed that 52 public passenger vehicle operators have been prosecuted for overcharging fares and 32 motor vehicles seized.
In a statement on Thursday, the Transport Authority said the operators were caught during its three-day islandwide crackdown dubbed 'Operation Reset', which was launched on Monday.
Managing Director Ralston Smith said the Authority will be stepping up enforcement to wipe out illegal fare hikes.
Mr. Smith warned that operators who continue to overcharge passengers could have their road licences suspended or revoked.
In the meantime, commuters are being encouraged to assist the Transport Authority in cracking down on this practice by reporting incidents of overcharging by calling (876) 926-8912 or WhatsApp (876) 551-8196.
Commuters should provide the licence plate numbers and the routes for the vehicles. They may send images or videos of the vehicles in which they experience overcharging to the Authority.
