The Independent Commission of Investigtions (INDECOM) says Wednesday's fatal shooting of a man in August Town, St. Andrew brings to 54, the number of persons shot and killed by the security forces since the start of the year.
Ten of the fatal shootings occurred this month.
Marvin Markland, otherwise called 'Papa', the reputed leader of the Gola Gang, was fatally shot sometime after 11 o'clock, in the Goldsmith Villa area, reportedly during a confrontation between the police and armed men.
A firearm was reportedly recovered from the scene.
INDECOM says residents have expressed concern regarding the circumstances of the shooting, which will also be examined during the investigation.
The Commission is appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, to contact its office at 876-968-1932.
