A 73-year-old man was shot and killed at a shop in Scott's Pass, Clarendon on Monday night.
Police named him as Rainford Bailey, a resident of Scott's Pass.
According to the police, about 7:00 p.m., Mr. Bailey and another man were seated outside the shop when they were surprised by an armed assailant who opened fire at them.
A shopkeeper, upon hearing the shots, reportedly went to investigate and was shot in his leg.
The three wounded men were taken to hospital where Mr. Bailey was pronounced dead and the two other men admitted for treatment.
Claudia Morant Baker, Councillor for the Porus division, where Scott's Pass is located, condemned the shooting, declaring that the victims were upstanding community builders.
"I cried when I went to bed last night, because I know these persons personally. These are persons who helped to shape Scott's Pass in a quiet way. These persons don't even speak loudly," said the councillor.
"As the councillor for the Porus division, I am condemning it. I'm saying to you - persons who do not want to go out there and work and believe in building - tek weh yourself. We don't need you in our space. You take away a father, a grandfather, a family member, [and] leave a community mourning. It is unacceptable. But I crave the intelligence of the community. If you know, speak up. And I hope the culprits will be caught," she declared.
