An alleged gunman is dead and a licensed firearm holder is in hospital following an attempted robbery in the vicinity of Newport West in St. Andrew on Monday night.
It is reported that the gun owner was driving along a roadway in the Newport West area when men in a car attempted to rob him.
The men were challenged by the man.
During an exchange of gunfire, the licensed firearm holder was wounded along with one of the assailants.
His cronies fled the scene.

Both injured men were assisted to Kingston Public Hospital where the unidentified man was pronounced dead.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the deceased is a 17-year-old boy of a Seaview Gardens address.
It's believed that another of his cronies was also shot and injured.
