Alleged mastermind in major overseas employment scam arrested

Halshane Burke reports

The alleged mastermind behind a major overseas employment racket has been captured by the police.

Horace Haughton was captured Tuesday evening during a police operation in the Corporate Area.

He is now facing multiple counts of fraud involving nearly $10 million.

Haughton, who also goes by the names 'Dr. Madison', 'Dr. Garcia' and 'Dr. Perez', was recently featured on the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Wanted Wednesdays.

More than 100 job seekers were defrauded after paying millions of dollars in fees after applying for hotel jobs in Florida and New York.

The victims responded to an online company advertising jobs overseas.

A woman was arrested and charged in connection with the scam late last year.

Haughton has been convicted of fraud on multiple occasions over the last several years.

In 2022, he was charged with running an overseas employment scam while serving time at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has been urging persons seeking jobs to be wary of fake agencies offering jobs overseas.
