Education Minister Fayval Williams has disclosed that an investigation has commenced at a private facility which caters to children, in a manner similar the Atlantis Leadership Academy in Treasure Beach St. Elizabeth, which was already being probed.
Mrs. Williams was tight-lipped about the name and location of the other facility.
She revealed that the second institution being investigated is registered under the Ministry.
However, the minister disclosed that Atlantis Leadership Academy was not registered with the Ministry of Education and Youth, noting that "They did make inquiries at some point in time some years ago, but we've searched our records and they were not registered."
"Of course, as you know, any educational institution offering services to our children must be registered with the Ministry of Education and Youth. We have a whole department set up for that," she pointed out during Wednesday morning's post-Cabinet press briefing.
She said the Ministry's records revealed that the Treasure Beach facility was operating outside of its regulatory framework.
The American owned Atlantis Leadership Academy is being investigated for alleged abuse of the children.
Five employees have been charged in connection with the allegations.
