A US based Attorney is challenging a claim by US Vice President JD Vance that Green Card holders don't have indefinite rights to be in that country.

Mr Vance made the comment in an interview with Fox News in the context of the arrest of a former student activist who led a pro-Palestinian protest at Colombia University last year.

The student, who was a green card holder, is married to a US citizen.

Florida based Jamaican attorney, Saschelle Grey, speaking Monday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said a green card grants individuals lawful permanent residence status in the United States, which, according to her means exactly what the words imply.

"Don't sign!"

Thessica Harris, another Florida based Jamaican attorney, is urging green card holders who may encounter challenges with immigration authorities at the airport in the US not to sign an I-407 form.

That form is a Record of Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status.

Ms Harris said, even if an immigration officer confiscates an individual's green card, the decision can be overturned by a judge, once the holder of the green card refuses to sign the I-407 form.
