Police personnel in the Area 4 Division have been placed on high alert following the killing of a reputed area leader by the police in the St Andrew South Division Wednesday morning.
Shacqol Pounall, 23 - otherwise called "Track Star" - of 2 Content Avenue, Kingston 10, was fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police about five o'clock.
The cops say they seized an illegal firearm in the incident.
Investigators have described Pounall as a top tier member of the 7's gang which has been implicated in several murders and shootings within the St. Andrew Central and St Andrew South police divisions.
The Police High Command reported that the deceased was implicated in a quadruple murder on November 25 last year along Ayrshire Avenue, Kingston 10. It added that Pounall managed the day to day activities of the gang by coordinating activities, including contract killings.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, Commanding Officer for the Police Area 4, told Radio Jamaica News that the police have been placed on high alert following the shooting.
He said there has been heightened tension within the Waltham Park area resulting from a long standing gang feud between the 7's and Dust City gangs.
The deadly conflict has led to a number of murders and shootings across the Corporate Area.
