Minister of Labour & Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr.
Minister of Labour & Social Security Pearnel Charles Junior has confirmed an increase in benefits to all NIS pensioners.
Mr Charles, making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Tuesday, disclosed that the increases took effect April 1, with payments to be made in August.
The Funeral Grant has been increased to $160,000, up from $150,000
He says the Maternity Allowance, which is pegged to the National Minimum Wage, will see domestic workers receiving an increase to 16 thousand dollars, effective June 1.
Pensioners who were receiving $4,200 per week will now receive $4,620 while those on $3,500 will see their move to $3,850 per week. Another group will see theirs move from $3,000 to $3,300.
The Old Age, Widows, Widowers and Invalidity Grant will be increased from $60,000 to $65,000.
The Special Child and Orphan Pension will now be $6,600 per week, up from $6,000, while the Special Child and Orphan Grant will rise from $75,000 to $80,000.
The Sugar Workers Pension will move from $3000 to $3,300 per week and the Employment (Injury) Benefit will be increased from $4,200 per week to $4,620.
The NI GOLD Health Insurance Benefit, provided to NIS pensioners, will also be increased, effective July 1.
