Buju Banton hires new attorney

Buju Banton, incarcerated Jamaican reggae star, has retained the services of a new attorney - the third such counsel since his arrest and conviction on drug related charges in the United States.

Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, has retained Charles J. Ogletree Jnr, after his previous lawyer, Chokwe Lumumba, was elected Mayor of Jackson Mississippi.

Rosemary Duncan, coordinator of t he  Buju Banton Defense Support Committee, says Lumumba was instrumental in finding a “highly competent, conscious and principled replacement”.

Ogletree served as Defense Attorney for legendary American Rapper, Tupac Shakur.

He was also the Defense Attorney for Anita Hill during the globally  publicised Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in 1991.
