Burials at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens in St. Catherine have been suspended for a second day as gravediggers are continuing their protest over wages.

The employees are in disagreement with the offer from the management of Meadowrest of eight per cent over two years.

Ingrid Chambers, Chief Executive Officer of Meadowrest Memorial Gardens, had informed Radio Jamaica News on Thursday that burials would have resumed at the cemetery by Friday, even if the workers continued their protest.

On Friday, she could not be reached for a comment.

Radio Jamaica News spoke with Peter Perry, Chief Executive Officer of Perry's Funeral Home, who said he was advised there would be no burials on Friday as Meadowrest was short of persons to work in that capacity.

Mr. Perry said he had four burials scheduled at Meadowrest.

He said he will not be charging his customers for the additional costs the funeral home will incur to postpone the burials.

According to Mr. Perry, Thursday's disruption resulted in one woman leaving Jamaica without seeing her mother being buried.
