A man facing gun related crimes was freed on Friday afternoon before the Gun Court.
Wayne Chambers, a 53-year-old resident of McKintyre Village in Dunkirk, Central Kingston, was freed when his attorneys challenged the evidence submitted by prosecutors.
Prosecutors led evidence that on September 1, 2022, Chambers, a "senior figure" in the community, opened gunfire on the complainant, who was sitting inside his vehicle in his driveway.
Chambers was charged a year later, on November 5, 2023, after the complainant officially filed a criminal complaint with the police.
But at the trial, his attorney Chadwick Berry challenged the evidence put forward by the State.
Mr. Berry highlighted that there was no bullet damage to the vehicle or the windscreen consistent with the claim that Mr. Chambers fired on the vehicle.
He also highlighted the fact that the complainant had failed to cooperate with the police in their initial investigations of the incident and filed the complaint a year later.
The presiding judge dismissed the case following the submissions.
