JMMB reports $4.1b operating profit as overseas operations grow

The JMMB Group is reporting an operating profit of $4.1 billion on net operating revenues of $29.1 billion for the financial year ended March 31.

The group says the performance was driven largely by its strategy of diversifying its sources of income.

That strategy also contributed to a $2.1-billion net profit recorded during the first quarter of the current financial year, which ended June 30.

Speaking at JMMB's annual general meeting, Chief Executive Officer Keith Duncan said 46 per cent of the group's gross revenues are now generated outside Jamaica, including operations in the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

JMMB Express Finance in Trinidad and Tobago, which has about 13,000 active client accounts, contributed $438.5 million in profit after tax.

Mr. Duncan said banking operations account for 67 per cent of the group's operating revenues, while its investment in Sagicor Financial Company generated $21.4 billion.
