Ceremonial opening of 2025/26 parliamentary year set for Thursday

The 2025/2026 Parliamentary Year will begin on Thursday with the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament at Gordon House.
 
The previous parliamentary session ended Wednesday morning.
 
Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives Edmund Bartlett announced the proroguing of Parliament on Tuesday.
 
The ceremonial opening will begin Thursday at 11 a.m. 
 
This year, Custos of Kingston, Steadman Fuller, will deputise for Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, and deliver the Throne Speech at the Joint Sitting of the Parliament.
 
The Throne Speech will outline the Government's legislative agenda for the upcoming parliamentary year.
 
The ceremonial opening will feature the formal arrival of parliamentary officials, members of both Houses of Parliament, and other dignitaries and will include the traditional inspection of the Guard of Honour.
 
After the ceremony, the House of Representatives will convene at 2 p.m. for the tabling of the 2025/2026 Estimates of Expenditure.
