Children's Advocate condemns brutal Clarendon mass shooting

 

Children's Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison has described as tragic, Sunday's mass shooting in Clarendon which affected children who were at the location.

 

An eight-year-old boy was among those killed in the attack.

 

She lamented that the incident had come at a time when children should be preparing for a new school year come September. 

 

"I'm deeply saddened by it. Of course, I extended my condolences to the friends, family, relatives, and all the loved ones who have been impacted and will be impacted by this untimely and very tragic and brutal death. Of course, I join with other leaders in the country to condemn the issue, but perhaps more importantly to see how we can craft solutions that really go to the root of preventing violence against our children," she said.   

 

The victims of the Clarendon attack are eight-year-old Aiden Bartley, a student of Four Paths Primary School; 27-year-old cosmetologist Kavel Daley; 50-year-old Lawrence Francis, a construction worker; and 20-year-old cashier Diamond Bennett.

 

Also killed were 68-year-old butcher Errol Stewart, otherwise called 'Wagga'; Courtney Messam, otherwise called 'Dummy'; and a woman known only as Margaret.

 

Nine others, including a one-year-old, have been hospitalised with bullet wounds.
