Commander Alvin Gayle of the Jamaica Defence Force has been appointed Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
His appointment follows Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness's announcement that ODPEM has been placed under the Office of the Prime Minister to strengthen logistical support and coordination for national recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
Commander Gayle's secondment from the JDF is part of the government's broader move to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of disaster response and recovery operations.
Meanwhile, former acting director general of ODPEM, Richard Thompson, will be reassigned to the Office of the Prime Minister. He will assist in developing strategic frameworks and systems to guide the country's long-term national relief and recovery initiatives.
