Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake has issued a warning to criminal elements not to challenge the police.
Dr Blake says the police are committed to bringing perpetrators of criminal acts to justice.
This comes against the background of an 18 per cent reduction in murders since the start of the year when compared with the corresponding period last year.
Dr Blake says the police are more interested in bringing suspects in alive but will not cower when attacked.
The Police Commissioner says undue focus has been placed on police fatal shootings which, according to him, is far from the true picture of police interaction with criminals.
