The contempt of court case involving Manchester based attorney-at-law Norman Godfrey has been transferred to the Home Circuit Court in Kingston.

The matter is to be heard on December 19.

Mr. Godfrey was cited for contempt by High Court Judge Georgia Frazer after he engaged in a shouting match with her in the Manchester Circuit Court on Friday.

The shouting match occurred after Mr. Godfrey tried to ascertain from the judge why several of his clients were remanded even though the court was informed that he was in the Supreme Court as one of the attorneys representing Constable Collis Chucky Brown who is on trial for murder.

During submissions on Wednesday, Mr. Godfrey's lead attorney, Velma Hylton, questioned why the transcript, which was obtained by a member of his legal team, was ordered returned after the High Court judge claimed it was not obtained through the regular channel.

This resulted in the matter being adjourned.

Following the court hearing, Donald Gitten, another member of Mr. Godfrey's legal team, told RJR News that he submitted to the judge that "if the transcript was requested from the shorthand writers and it was provided without any request for any fee, then there can be no irregularity," so the judge must point out in what way the obtaining of the transcript was irregular.
