The Kingston and St. Andrew Health Department has ordered crab and corn vendors to close their operations at a section of Heroes Circle popularly known as "Crab Circle".
Health Inspectors swooped down on the facility Thursday afternoon following the release of a video on Wednesday showing unsanitary practices by a vendor. The video has since gone viral on social media.
In a notice to the vendors, the Health Department said vending operations have been ordered closed for non-compliance with the Public Health (Food Handling) Regulations 1998. The vendors have been ordered to cease operations with effect from today, October 5, until further notice.
A copy of the notice was placed at the location with the threat of a fine not exceeding $1 million or a maximum 12 months imprisonment for anyone convicted of removing, defacing or destroying the document.
