Three employees of Jamaica Customs, two custom brokers and an entertainment consultant were remanded Friday morning when they appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court to answer to various criminal charges.
On Thursday detectives attached to the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID) charged them for a plethora of breaches of the Larceny Act, following a longstanding investigation.
The six were held by OCID detectives during a raid earlier this month.
The Jamaica Customs employees are Valene Davis, 32 of Braeton in Greater Portmore, Norda Peart, 36 of Windsor Heights in Central Village, and Nash Grant, 38 of Gore Tuca in Portmore.
They were charged with fraudulent conversion, conspiracy to defraud and falsification of accounts.
According to the police, one of the alleged mastermind Phillip Glenister, a 29 year old entertainment consultant has been charged for possession of a forged stamp allegedly found when the police searched his Greater Portmore home.
Twenty nine year old Sabrina Campbell, a custom broker of Frazers Content, in St. Catherine, will answer charges of conspiracy to defraud, forgery and fraudulent conversion.
Another custom broker, 52-year-old Washington Wong of East Amour Heights in St. Andrew has been charged for forgery and conspiracy to defraud.
The suspected master-mind, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to police on Wednesday, May 23 and is now in custody.
Their arrests form part a major fraud investigation at Jamaica Customs involving more than $40 million.
Investigators have been looking at various aspects of operations at Jamaica Customs, including several questionable transactions during the clearing of goods from the ports.
