The management of CVM Television has agreed to meet with the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU), to discuss a recent redundancy exercise which resulted in 12 workers losing their jobs.
Garfield Harvey, UAWU Third Vice-President, said the agreement came during discussions on Wednesday, with CVM's management, after the union demanded that the company withdraw the redundancy letters.
Mr. Harvey says the company has indicated that the matter should have been treated differently.
“I was able to speak with the chairman himself at one stage and there is a recognition that some errors were made, the company has conceded that the matter should have been dealt with differently from the way it was, so the parties have agreed to have further discussions. But bear in mind that our position remains the same, the letters must be withdrawn,” he said.
Mr. Harvey says the union is seeking to establish several issues, including what led to the redundancies, the financial health of the broadcasting company, and other related matters.
Last week, a CVM official maintained that the company honoured all its obligations under the Labour Relations and Industrial Disputes Act.
