A Jamaican fugitive who was recently captured overseas after several years on the run, has been slapped with several charges, including murder and shooting.
The Kingston Western police on Tuesday charged 35-year-old Shadane McKenzie, otherwise called 'Phillipine', three years after he reportedly fled the island.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police, said McKenzie had been on the division's most wanted list for several years.
"He was arrested in the [Dominican Republic] on the 24th of July this year after arriving on a flight from Haiti. You will recall that McKenzie was placed on our wanted list since 2016, however, he managed to flee our shores. But our relentless efforts in terms of pursuing him continued. We had the support of our international partners and we were able to track and nab him," SSP Phillips disclosed.
McKenzie was deported to Jamaica on July 27 and is charged with murder and other gun related offences.
He has been charged for the June 2021 murder of 29-year-old Damain Cummings, otherwise called "Beenie Man" along Sunlight Street, Kingston 13 and the December 2016 murder of Richard Walker along Ramsey Road.
"I can tell you that our efforts to pursue and arrest wanted persons within the division will continue," SSP Phillips warned.
