Dominica's Ministry of Education is exploring implementing remedial programs to address a number of "academic weaknesses" in primary and secondary schools.
Dominica's Minister for Education, Octavia Alfred, revealed that primary school curriculums lack certain subjects essential in moulding well-rounded individuals, and the remedial programs may help address this gap.
She says the curriculum needs to include life skills and clubs, civics, and skills that will help the students use their hands, adding that the curriculum will emphasize visual and performing arts.
The Ministry has also noticed that some students are entering the secondary level. Still, their literacy and numeracy are below fourth grade, and hope to address the gap in problem-solving.
