Donald Trump found guilty in hush-money case

Former US President Donald Trump

The jury has found former US President Donald Trump guilty of falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payment made to former adult film star Stormy Daniels.

He becomes the first former president to be convicted of a crime.

He has been found guilty on all 34 charges.

The 34 counts stemmed from 11 invoices, 12 vouchers and 11 checks that make up Mr. Trump's monthly reimbursement payments to Michael Cohen who fronted the $130,000 payment to Miss Daniels.

Reacting to the verdict, the former president maintained his innocence and called the conviction "a disgrace".

"This was rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt.... They wouldn't give us a venue change. We were at five per cent or six per cent in this district, in this area. The real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people. They know what happened here and everybody knows what happened here," he declared.

The historic conviction comes as Mr. Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee for president in the November 5 general election.

The court heard from 22 witnesses over six weeks, including Miss Daniels, who alleged that she had sexual encounter with Trump.

The 12-member jury deliberated for two days before arriving at its decision.

Dozens of potential jurors were dismissed in April, after saying they could not be impartial.
