In a suspected case of death by misadventure, an elderly woman met a tragic end on Thursday after she went to pick ackees and was found entangled in the branches of the tree in Burnt Ground, St. Elizabeth.

Sometime after 7 o'clock Friday morning, relatives found the body of 83-year-old Udel Townsend caught in the tree.

A bag with ackees, a pair of slippers and a machete were found at the base of the tree.

Residents say Ms. Townsend was last seen alive on Thursday.

Her son, who lives in another community, was contacted when she did not turn up Friday morning.

Robert Robinson suspects that his mother met into difficulty while trying to pick one of her favourite foods.

The police do not suspect foul play in the death of the elderly woman.
