Elective surgeries, clinic appointments at public hospitals postponed

Clinic appointments at outpatient departments of public hospitals have been postponed until further notice.

Additionally, elective surgeries in public hospitals have been suspended and patients will be advised of new dates for their appointments.

The Ministry of Health advised of the measures in a release Monday afternoon.

This follows disruption to public healthcare services after government medical consultants called in sick on Monday.

The ministry is advising that for medical advice or urgent care needs that are not emergencies, people should contact their primary care physician.

Members of the public are also being advised to maintain health precautions such as frequent hand washing, to prevent seasonal illnesses, including colds and flu.

Patients should also manage existing health conditions by taking prescribed medications and adhering to treatment plans.

The ministry says in life-threatening situations, people should visit the nearest emergency department.
