Water Minister Matthew Samuda
The National Water Commission has initiated emergency rehabilitation works at the Greater Portmore sewage pond.
Residents, schools and businesses in the area have been negatively affected by the overbearing stench emanating from the pond.
Water Minister Matthew Samuda says the western ponds will require a similar level of upgrade to what was completed at the eastern sewage ponds in 2022.
Minister Samuda says the rapid growth of Portmore's population and improper disposal of personal hygiene products have put a strain on the existing infrastructure, necessitating immediate intervention.
