The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has reported a 38 per cent voter turnout among special services voters on Thursday who cast their ballots in the Local Government Election.
This group of special services voters comprises more than 10,000 police officers, more than 4,800 members of the Jamaica Defence Force and about 25,000 Election Day Workers.
Polling stations opened at 8 a.m. and closed at 4 p.m.
Director of Elections Glasspole Brown said plans are in place to accommodate a larger turnout on election day come Monday.
"We are hoping for better, comparative to 2016. So it's a reasonable start so far. We'll see what happens on Monday," he said.
