A Linstead, St.
Catherine family is angry even as they mourn the loss of a baby.
Eleven month old Dayjohn Rambarran was pronounced dead at Linstead Hospital Sunday morning just hours after he had been sent home from the facility.
The family blames the hospital and doctor for Dayjohn's death.
They say he was not properly attended to and that no one paid the necessary attention to their sick child.
Dayjohn's Grandmother, Gwendolyn Wood-Findley says she and the baby's mother took him to Linstead Hospital at about 7pm Saturday because the child seemed listless and was vomiting.
She said she did not see a doctor until two hours later and while they waited Dayjohn seemed to get worse.
"The nurse haffi slap the baby and pinch the baby for him to come back around," said Gwendolyn Wood-Findlay, Dayjohn's grandmother.
She said when the doctor came he asked about the baby's symptoms and when told, he prescribed three cups of dehydration salts without examining Dayjohn.
"I go back in there and I asked them why they giving him three cups of (dehydration) salts when him not taking ... why you all don't do something to the baby when the nursed said to me, be patient mother the doctor prescribe three cups of salt for him and I asked them again for what?"
Mrs. Wood-Findley said they were told to go home and return the next morning.
She said the Dayjohn cried all night and early Sunday morning, she heard Dayjohn's mother scream that he was dying.
They rushed to the Linstead hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"When I go down there this morning now and mi neighbour rush in with the baby, the doctor called me to talk to me (but) it was last night that he should have done so ... him can't help me nor help my grandchild now. We see the nurse who attended to him and when I tell her the baby dead, she said "Dead, dead ... the baby should not have gone home.'"
"She asked me if I didn't you get a letter to take to the Spanish Town Hospital and I told her no. That was what I thought they would have done from last night when we just brought him there," said Mrs. Wood-Findlay, Dayjohn's grandmother.
