Fayval Williams to be the new Minister of Finance

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Fayval Williams will be Jamaica's new Minister of Finance, succeeding Dr Nigel Clarke, who demitted office at midnight Tuesday.

Senator Dana Morris Dixon will succeed Mrs Williams as Education Minister, while retaining her current portfolio responsibility for Information, Skills & Digital Transformation.

These changes were just announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the Post Cabinet Press Conference.

Mrs Williams previously served as Minister of State, then Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance. She was then appointed Minister of Energy and later Minister of Education, where she has been serving until today's announcement.

She will be the first woman to serve as Minister of Finance in Jamaica.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that Matthew Samuda, recently elected for the parliamentary constituency of St. Ann North Eastern, will return to the Cabinet in his previous capacity as Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth & Job Creation.

He will once again assume responsibility for water and the environment under the portfolio leadership of the Prime Minister.

Mr Samuda held that position while serving as a senator.
