Fern Gully road work affecting vendors

Vendors in Fern Gully, St Ann say their livelihoods are still being affected by the travel restrictions in place, due to work being done by the National Works Agency, NWA.

Road work in Fern Gully is slated to resume today, after the Fern Gully Rehabilitation Project was delayed earlier in the year.

Currently, only single lane traffic is being allowed in the area.

Secretary of the Fern Gully Craft Traders Association, Normadene Trusty, told RJR News, that some vendors have not been able to ply their trade for over a year.

The vendors also say, the discomfort allowance they have received from the NWA since the closure of Fern Gully in March last year, is not enough compensation.

Meanwhile, the NWA's Communications Officer for the Northeast region, Natalie Bloomfield-Rowe says the agency has not been made aware of any recent concerns by the vendors in Fern Gully.

Ms Bloomfield-Rowe also says, the rehabilitation project there, is not likely to be completed by October as was previously expected.
