Five Guyana Defence Force members killed in helicopter crash

The Guyana Defence Force has confirmed that five of its service members died in Wednesday's helicopter crash in the Arau village near the Guyana/Venezuela border.
 
Two young soldiers survived the crash.
 
The GDF says it was in its second day of search and rescue operations to locate the helicopter which went missing about 11:20 Wednesday morning.
 
A special forces team was dispatched to the site at approximately 2:30 Thursday afternoon.
 
The GDF says it has lowered all of its flags to half mast following the confirmed deaths.
 
It says the next phase of the operation involves the extraction of the aircraft from the area.
 
An investigation into the crash is underway.
