The five people, including two Haitians, who were arrested and charged in connection with last month's 3,000-pound ganja bust in St. Andrew, have been remanded until September 15.
The Jamaicans, Heron Brown, Wade Richards and Delroy Wilson, are charged with two counts each of possession of ganja, dealing in, taking steps to export ganja, conspiracy to traffic ganja and trafficking ganja.
The Haitians, Wisler Laveis and Shelande Dorelien, are charged with similar offences and illegal entry.
It was reported that on July 18, about 9 p.m., members of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division's Special Operations Team intercepted two motor vehicles in Toms River. One of the vehicles was occupied by Mr. Wilson and the two Haitian nationals, while the other
men occupied the other vehicle.
A thorough search of the vehicles uncovered more than 350 parcels of ganja with an estimated street value of $9.3 million.
They made their first appearance Thursday in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court.
When the matter was called up, Mr. Brown's attorney Donahue Martin and Mr. Wilson's attorney D'ondré Buchanan, indicated their intention to apply for bail during the next hearing.
Mr. Richards and the Haitians were unrepresented.
Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell asked Court Management Services to assist the court in securing the service of an interpreter.
The court was told that the case file was incomplete. The clerk of court is to disclose the file by August 25.
