Florida governor wants to send illegal Haitian migrants to Democrat strongholds

The governor of Florida Ron DeSantis says he will send illegal Haitian migrants arriving in South Florida to upscale Democratic strongholds like Martha's Vineyard, an island best known as the summer home of the American jet set and Presidents of the United States.

DeSantis, a Republican, says the state has its transport programme that will be operational.

He has deployed dozens of officers and soldiers, as well as helicopters, drones and boats to patrol the South Florida coast for any illegal migrant boats.

Florida deployed forces earlier this month in anticipation of increased Haitian migration to the state by boat, as violence grows in their country.

Haiti is in turmoil with an estimated 15,000 people having been driven from their homes as powerful gangs recently attacked prisons and airports in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

According to the United Nations, more than 1,190 people in Haiti have been killed since the start of the year.
