Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the government will be moving to consolidate the country's various payroll taxes into a single payroll tax deduction.

He said on Tuesday that the government has been discussing the issue for sometime.

Mr Holness, speaking at Jamaica House, said the consolidated tax deduction system should be implemented during the next financial year.

He said he'd discussed this policy shift with then Finance Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke two years ago and he had been "tasked to do it."

Although the change has not yet been made, the Prime Minister said "the work has begun, and I've now tasked Minister Fayval Williams (new Minister of Finance) to get it done and to get it done quickly."

The Prime Minister's address on the government's economic policy was billed as a "Pivot to Inclusive Growth."
