Former Jamaican PM PJ Patterson calls for action in African-Caribbean cooperation

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, PJ Patterson, says it is time for action as he rallied African and Caribbean countries to work together to advance their common interests.

Noting that there are 54 countries in Africa and 14 countries in the Caribbean, Mr. Patterson called for them to forge their own paths, finance their own development, and develop trading links between the regions.

He says Africa and the Caribbean must be resolute in demanding change, starting with Africa having a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Mr. Patterson added that the two regions must also demand an overhaul of multilateral lending institutions.

He was participating in a panel discussion at the Africa Export-Import Bank 31st Annual Meeting yesterday.
