Fritz Pinnock detained by the police

Professor Fritz Pinnock, President of Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), has been detained by the police.

Professor Pinnock was a short while ago taken from his house in Hellshire St Catherine by the police. A number of items were also taken from his house.

It’s also understood that Kim Brown Lawrence, the councillor for the Brown's Town division, in the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, is also in police custody.

Police operations have been taking place at four locations in Kingston and St Andrew, St Ann and St Catherine since 5 o'clock.

The police say the operations are targeting the main suspects implicated in multi-million dollar corruption and fraudulent schemes perpetrated at the Ministry of Education, Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) and other government entities which fell under the portfolio responsibility of former education minister Ruel Reid.

The police have also been at Mr. Reid’s St. Andrew home since early this morning.

RJR News understands that Mr Reid's wife and his daughter are also under investigation.
