Government Medical Consultants restive

Members of the Association of Government Medical Consultants have come out in strong disagreement with the government about the current salary offer made to them under the new Compensation Review Programme.

The medical consultants say they have now reached the point of frustration with the process after two years.

According to the Association, some consultants have been asked to take a salary cut. They contend that this is unacceptable for the medical leadership of the health sector.

The consultants say the intransigence of the government in this matter could lead to disruption in health services.

"The Medical Consultants have been usually accommodating and quietly resolve issues. The Consultants have now reached the point of frustration in the current process after two (2) years. Some Consultants have been asked to take a salary cut," the Association declared in a press release on Sunday afternoon.

This situation "cannot be acceptable for the Medical Leadership of the Health sector. Such a continued negative position by the Government of Jamaica may lead to disruption in the health services," the group warned.
