Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has strongly condemned the attack and murder of police Corporal Kamal Mayne.
Corporal Mayne was killed early Saturday morning at his home in Old Harbour St. Catherine.
Prime Minister Holness has described the killing as a heartbreaking blow to his family, his colleagues and the nation.
He stressed that every day, police officers put themselves in harm's way to build a more peaceful, more secure Jamaica, adding that their service must never be taken for granted, nor their sacrifices ignored.
Senator Peter Bunting, Shadow Minister of National Security, also responded to the killing of Corporal Mayne, saying it was not only an attack on a committed officer but a blow to public safety and the rule of law.
He added that the death of any member of the security forces in such circumstances is a sobering reminder of the threats they face.
Senator Bunting has urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward and support the efforts of law enforcement.
He also called for renewed national focus on violence prevention, better welfare benefits for law enforcement officers, and stronger collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.
