Gov't appeals for owners of unused land to consider selling to state

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness is appealing to landowners with unused property in developed areas to approach the Government about selling the land for social housing.

Dr. Holness says acquiring more suitable land under the New Social Housing Programme could help address illegal settlements and expand housing opportunities for vulnerable Jamaicans.

He says beneficiaries must own land or have permission to use it through ownership or a long-term lease before the Government constructs their homes.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House and St. Andrew East Rural Member of Parliament Juliet Holness says finding suitable land remains a challenge in her constituency, particularly in hilly areas.

She is urging landowners, whether currently based in Jamaica or overseas, to contact the Government regarding suitable properties, stating that needy families should not miss out on housing because of a shortage of land.
