The government has commenced consultations on its Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) programme.

Two consultations have already been held in the Corporate Area.

Under the programme, $40 billion has been set aside for road improvement projects, to modernise more than 2,000 roads islandwide.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie says the programme will pay special attention to community roads.

"The first phase of that programme will see some $20 billion being spent on community roads. The number of road network in the country has significantly increased. There is about 22,000 kilometers, and if you add an additional 5,000 kilometers of new developments, we are close to 25,000 kilometers of road network and community roads," he noted.

Mr. McKenzie said the programe is designed to be inclusive, hence consultations are being held in various constituencies and divisions to give residents the opportunity to raise concerns.
