The government is to spend $3 billion in the upcoming fiscal year to purchase new buses to boost the fleet of the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).
Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says the money, outlined in the 2025/26 Estimate of Expenditure, will also go towards improving the services of the bus company.
"Thanks to Minister [Fayval] Williams, the team at the Ministry of Finance, they've earmarked another $3 billion for 100 additional buses for the public transportation system. And 10 of those, which is important, will have special provisions for Jamaicans living with disabilities," she touted.
Dr. Morris Dixon noted that, over the last 24 months, the government has been able to acquire 250 buses, as it rebuilds the JUTC's fleet and opens new routes.
