Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries & Mining Floyd Green has asserted that there needs to be a stronger supportive framework for agriculture in schools.
He says, while there is a framework that already exists, more work needs to be done to reach young people.
Mr Green says young people are not being introduced to agriculture in a meaningful way and that the problem of youth participation is compounded by farmers not sharing their success stories. On the other hand, he says there's a constant producing and sharing of depressing stories out of agriculture.
On the other hand, he says, despite the challenge, more young people are moving towards agriculture, especially in the small ruminant sector.
Accordingly, he says the Ministry will be strategic in sharing the successes and benefits that can be reaped from a livelihood in farming.
