Harold Crooks defending himself at his trial

The preliminary trial of Harold Crooks, the former Commandant of the Island Special Constabulary Force, began in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court in St. Catherine on Monday, June 27.

During the in camera hearing, the complaint testified about what transpired between herself and the accused man.

Court sources told RJR News that Mr. Crooks is representing himself as he is now without a lawyer.

Mr. Crooks was charged on May 27, last year with indecent assault and carnal abuse involving a 16-year old girl.

He has denied the allegations, claiming that contrary to reports which were made to the police, he did not have sexual relations with the girl until after her sixteenth birthday, and with her consent. 

Mr. Crooks is due back in court on July 25.
