The St. Thomas Health Department has ordered the closure of the Morant Bay Shopping Plaza in the parish.
The facility was ordered closed last Friday, following concerns regarding the sewage system.
According to the health department, following a notice to rectify the situation, work was carried out on the sewage system but it did not meet the standard of the Public Health Department as there was still a significant health risk to the public and therefore the closure was ordered.
The health department on Monday carried out a reinspection of remedial work done since the closure of the plaza and is expected to meet with the strata management in short order.
The shopping plaza houses a grocery story, doctors and lawyers offices, restaurants, offices of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security among other businesses.
