High Command to assist police personnel badly affected by Hurricane Melissa

The Police High Command is promising to implement a series of initiatives to support scores of police personnel who were displaced or otherwise severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake, in his weekly column, acknowledged the significant challenges facing members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force as they navigate the aftermath of the hurricane.

He noted that efforts are already underway to improve both the working and living conditions of officers during the recovery period.

Dr. Blake said the High Command is actively pursuing several avenues of assistance for the members most affected, and described the response so far as "very good."

Among the commitments received, he said, are offers to help repair damaged homes belonging to JCF personnel.

He also disclosed that the Ministry of National Security has begun exploring much faster procurement options under emergency provisions in the procurement guidelines—moves aimed at expediting critical support.

Dr. Blake used the column to encourage members of the force not to lose hope or focus, and to carefully manage expectations. He stressed that full recovery will take time, and urged officers to remain steadfast and resilient as the rebuilding effort continues.
