Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sought to reassure the public that roads slated for repairs will be completed, while disclosing that any delay is due to required procedures.
There have been several protests over poor road conditions which protestors say have become a threat to public safety.
Speaking at Wednesday's post Cabinet media briefing, Mr. Holness said he is not asking for patience but for understanding.
"We will fix your roads. Already we have allocated an additional $3 billion for patching," he said, while noting that patching cannot be done if it is raining.
"From a technical perspective with the asphalt, but even from an economical perspective, you patch today and it rains tomorrow and all of that is gone again. Wasted."
However, Mr. Holness pointed out that the approaching Christmas season coincides with the government's routine maintenance regime, so a further allocation will be made to constituencies for patching.
"So there will be some funds in the system to be able to respond at the local level to some of the concerns that exist. So I want again to say to the Jamaican people, government understands the issue. We agree it is at a crisis proportion. We did not create this problem. This problem is 50 years in the making," he insisted.
