Human Rights Watch wants Jamaica to repeal anti buggery law

United States-based Human Rights Watch is reportedly urging the Jamaica government to repeal its anti-buggery law.

The human rights group claimed that homophobia is “so bad that human rights defenders advocating the rights of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) people are not safe in Jamaica”.

 The claim was  reportedly included in a letter to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.

The group pointed to what it says  was  Mrs. Simpson Miller willingness to review the country’s 148-year-old buggery law during a leadership debate leading up to the General Election.
